Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct

Tallahassee Autism Academy (TAA) adheres to the Florida Department of Education’s Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Conduct for the Education Profession in Florida, Rule 6A-10.081, Florida Administrative Code.  

Florida Educator Code of Ethics

Florida educators are guided by the following ethical principles:

  • The educator values the worth and dignity of every person, the pursuit of truth, devotion to excellence, acquisition of knowledge, and the nurture of democratic citizenship.
  • The educator’s primary professional concern is always for the student and the development of the student’s potential.
  • The educator strives for professional growth and exercises sound professional judgment and integrity.
  • The educator maintains the respect and confidence of students, parents, colleagues, and the community through the highest standards of ethical conduct.  

Professional Conduct

All instructional personnel, administrators, and staff of Tallahassee Autism Academy are expected to:

  • Protect students from conditions harmful to learning, health, safety, and well-being.
  • Respect the legal rights and dignity of every student.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information as required by law.
  • Avoid discrimination, harassment, exploitation, or misconduct toward students, families, colleagues, or members of the public.
  • Maintain honesty and integrity in all professional dealings.
  • Comply with all applicable federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, and Tallahassee Autism Academy policies and procedures.  

Reporting Professional Misconduct

Tallahassee Autism Academy requires all employees, contractors, volunteers, and school personnel to report any suspected misconduct affecting the health, safety, or welfare of a student. Reports may be made to school administration, appropriate state agencies, law enforcement, or the Florida Department of Education’s Office of Professional Practices Services as required by law.
